INFORMA's DBK Sectoral Observatory recently published these insights in the 'Centers for Assisted Reproduction' Special Report.
Madrid, 27 April 2026.- According to INFORMA's (Cesce's subsidiary) DBK Sectoral Observatory—a leading provider of business, financial, sectoral, and marketing information in Spain and Portugal—the aggregate turnover generated by private centres specialising in assisted reproduction treatments reached €685 million in 2025, representing growth of 5.1% year-on-year, following a 5.5% change in the previous year.
Despite the trend towards stabilisation in the number of cycles performed each year, the rising average cost per treatment has been driving sector revenue.
Including the activity carried out in this area by public hospitals and private hospitals, the total value of assisted reproduction cycles performed in Spain in 2025 was estimated at around €1 billion. Of this, 68.5% corresponded to privately owned specialist centres, 11.0% to public hospitals, and 20.5% to private hospitals. In the latter case, only turnover generated using own resources is taken into account.
The assisted reproduction sector offers favourable medium- and long-term prospects, supported by factors such as the falling fertility rate, the rise of non-traditional family models, limited public healthcare coverage, the flexibility of national legislation, and the prestige of Spanish centres.
However, operators are currently facing a trend towards stagnation in the number of cycles performed for Spanish female patients, pointing to possible saturation of the domestic market. Demand from foreign female patients remained dynamic.
In March 2026, there were 265 specialist centres providing assisted reproduction services in Spain. Around 65% of the total were located in the autonomous communities of Catalonia, Andalusia, Madrid and the Valencian Community.
Corporate activity involving acquisitions and mergers, together with the disappearance of small, low-profit establishments, has been increasing supply-side concentration among the leading specialist groups, which bring together a growing number of centres. The top ten operators held a combined 69% market share in 2024.
