Wind and solar capacity will approach 93,000 MW at the end of 2026
-
Installed wind and solar energy capacity in Spain stood at 85,809 megawatts at the end of 2025, representing a 16% increase on 2024, ie 12,000 MW more. At the end of 2026, additional capacity in operation is estimated at around 7,000 megawatts, taking the total figure close to 93,000 MW and thus confirming continued slowing in growth.
-
Installed solar photovoltaic energy capacity in Spain stood at 50,228 megawatts in 2025, and is estimated at some 57,000 by December 2026, which will mean growth of 13.5%. Wind power, meanwhile, could reach 33,650 megawatts, up 1% year-on-year.

INFORMA's DBK Sectoral Observatory recently published these insights in the 'Renewable Energies' Sectoral Report.
Madrid, 13 October 2026.- According to INFORMA's (Cesce's subsidiary) DBK Sectoral Observatory, a leading provider of business, financial, sectoral, and marketing information in Spain and Portugal, installed wind and solar energy capacity stood at 85,809 megawatts in 2025, of which 52,530 corresponded to the latter (+26.2% year-over-year) and 33,279 to wind (+3.6%). Within solar, photovoltaic added some 11,000 megawatts, exceeding 50,000 (+28%), while thermoelectric remained stagnant at 2,302.
At the end of 2026, solar capacity is expected to grow by 13%, with photovoltaic approaching 57,000 megawatts, while no new plant openings have been identified in thermoelectric. Price volatility, doubts over future profitability, and excess capacity in some areas will continue to shape the development and commissioning of new facilities. In wind, just over 350 new megawatts could be installed.
The sector totalled 64,651 facilities in 2025, including 1,755 wind power generation facilities (up 2% year-on-year), 62,845 photovoltaic facilities (some 200 more) and 51 thermoelectric power stations. Andalusia was the region with the highest wind and solar capacity, at just over 17,000 megawatts across some 8,300 facilities, followed by Castile-La Mancha (close to 14,600 megawatts and some 12,000 plants) and Castile and León (13,500 megawatts across 6,200 facilities).
In the wind segment, Castile and León strengthened its leadership, with around 7,750 megawatts, ahead of Aragon and Castile-La Mancha. In photovoltaic, Andalusia ranked first, with 12,400 megawatts (+35%), followed by Castile-La Mancha, Extremadura and Castile and León.
Energy volumes sold stood at almost 109,000 gigawatt-hours in 2025. Wind contributed 58,270 (-3%), photovoltaic rose 8% to 46,980, and thermoelectric solar declined 11% to 3,679. Market value stood at €8.756 billion, with a 10.4% increase in the wind segment and a 5.2% decline in solar, amid high price volatility.
The sector maintained notable concentration: the top five operators in terms of attributable installed wind and solar capacity together accounted for 32.3% of the total in 2025, rising to 43.5% when considering the top ten.
